I spent the better part of five minutes trying to come up with a Chicago version of Phillbillies (four L's -- I like it) and the best I could do was Chicks. Chi-cks? C-hicks? It just doesn't work. It's the SH sound that's the problem.
Anyhow, I consulted a thesaurus, and the only synonym they gave was "bushwhacker." How great a word is that?
I may not agree with their clices, but I will defend until the next commercial break, their right to fling 'em around, mindlessly.
@JMH: How about Chinecks? Chokies? Oh, I know, the Chiosen Onez....
Caly has a few, too.
